The Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology (APAMT) is an international association established by a group of medical toxicologists in 1989 to promote all aspects of chemical safety, poison control and treatment within the Asia Pacific region. APAMT has been able to achieve much of its objectives through sharing poison information, investigative research and collaborating with governmental organisations, professional bodies, individuals and academic institutions.

The Annual International Scientific Congress is an important event for the association. The assembly is a platform for clinicians, toxicologists, poison specialists, and researchers to engage and share new experiences, development and controversies in toxicology. Since 1992, APAMT has conducted its yearly congress in various countries in the Asia Pacific including Dubai in the UAE. Malaysia has been granted the privilege to organise and host APAMT 2019, an honour it has already enjoyed on two previous occasions in 2001 and 2011.

The organising of APAMT 2019 is a joint effort of APAMT, the Malaysia National Poison Centre (Universiti Sains Malaysia) and the Malaysian Society on Toxinology and College of Emergency Physicians (Malaysia Academy of Medicine). The congress, scheduled for 5-7 November 2019 will kick-off with three Pre-Congress Workshops on 4 November. The entire proceedings of APAMT 2019 will be wholly conducted at The Everly Putrajaya, a modern 4-star hotel.

The chosen theme for APAMT 2019, “Facing Challenges in Toxicology: Fusing Technology and People” is deemed appropriate and well timed in the current medical technological era. The congress will reflect on new approaches, future trends and challenges in medical toxicology especially in the Asia Pacific region through scholarly discussions and presentations.

Broadly, the congress scientific programme will also include other important aspects of toxicology such as natural toxins, pesticide poisonings, medical management of poisoning, analytical toxicology, risk assessment, mental health and poisoning, drugs (dose to poison) and, environmental & occupational hazards and risks assessment.

I am inviting you to browse through the conference website for more information on the congress: Scientific program, Speakers, Registration details, Abstract submission, Fees, Conference venue, Accommodation and other related details.

As in all its previous assemblies, APAMT 2019 promises to inspire, uplift and enrich its audience. Do mark the dates of the congress in your calendar. My fellow organisers and I are looking forward to welcoming you to APAMT 2019 in Putrajaya this November.

Best wishes

Professor Dato’ Dr MOHAMED ISA Abdul Majid
Organising Chairman - APAMT 2019
Director, Malaysia National Poison Centre
Head, WHO Collaborating Centre for Drug Information (Western Pacific Region)
